Adler Mannheim captain MARKUS KINK (17), the 28-year-old left wing who will be skating for Germany at the upcoming Olympic qualification tournament in Bietigheim-Bissingen, chases after Eisbaeren Berlin’s Canadian legionnaire COREY LOCKE (23) during the Deutsche Eishockey Liga’s Jubilaeum-Duell at the sold-out SAP Arena in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

2006 Germany Olympic left wing FLORIAN BUSCH scored a spectacular goal on solo rush early into the third period and current national team netminder ROB ZEPP turned aside fourteen shots the rest of the way as visiting defending champion EISBAEREN BERLIN held off legitimate title contenders ADLER MANNHEIM in the 100th all-time meeting between the two rival Deutsche Eishockey Liga clubs.

Zepp made 39 saves in all while defensemen CONSTANTIN BRAUN and FRANK HOERDLER as well as captain ANDRE RANKEL also scored goals for Eisbaeren Berlin in Baden-Wuerttemberg. All four players, along with veteran Eisbaeren defenseman JENS BAXMANN, have made the final cut for the Germany national team which will be hosting the Winter Olympic Games qualification tournament starting February 7th in Bietigheim-Bissingen. Rankel is currently tied for fourth on the scoring chart in the German top flight this season having registered 16 goals and 44 points in 37 D.E.L. games.

Canadian legionnaire MIKE GLUMAC, the 32-year-old former Miami University right wing who once skated 40 NHL games (7 go, 13 pts) for the St. Louis Blues before arriving in Baden-Wuerttemberg to begin the 2010/11 season, tallied twice for Adler Mannheim on the power play and took his team-leading total in the D.E.L. this term to 17 goals; veteran winger RONNY ARENDT also scored for the home side on a penalty shot after being hauled down from behind in the second period.

Adler Mannheim forward RONNY ARENDT, the 32-year-old veteran who is skating his eighth season with the Baden-Wuerttemberg club now after beginning his senior career with ES Weisswasser in the 2.Bundesliga, is hooked down from behind by Eisbaeren Berlin’s Germany national team defenseman FRANK HOERDLER (7) during the so-called Jubilaeum-Duell.

Eisbaeren Berlin’s Canadian legionnaire COREY LOCKE, the 28-year-old center who was recently signed by the defending D.E.L. champion from Finnish club TPS Turku, had his best outing since arriving in Germany and collected three assists against the hosting Adler Mannheim in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The result of the contest watched by a sell-out crowd of 13,600 spectators at the SAP Arena left the two rival clubs deadlocked at 50 victories apiece in the long-running Deutsche Eishockey Liga feud which first began in 1994. Adler Mannheim have now outscored Eisbaeren Berlin 318-305 in the one hundred matches played between the two sides, it should be noted for the record. The defending D.E.L. champions, however, did win three of the four regular season contests with die Adler this term.
